For the last couple of years I have foregone the food dyes when decorating eggs for the celebration of Easter (which is pretty much the only way I celebrate Easter). Using my juicer, I have found incredible color options: carrot juice mixed with a bit of turmeric provides a gorgeous earthen sunset orange; beet juice (super messy!) can give a whole range of reds and purples depending on dilution (using vinegar, of course); parsley (takes at least a bunch) and spinach leaves offer, naturally, incredible greens. Blueberries were a more costly option for deep red-purple (almost blue, actually), but it was just so cool to use them, so I did. Mash the fruit in a large bowl, strain off the solids, and paint your eggs with a basting brush--one made of silicone won't be permanently stained.
Waverly Fitzgerald, a blogger of sorts whose writings on seasonal celebrations I started following a few years ago, also provides some nice ideas on egg decorating here.
Alternatively, use craft paper, glue and markers to create fun and unique eggs. See below!
I also love the ideas and charm behind the spring celebrations offered by Circle Sanctuary.
Finally, Mike Nichols, a famed writer and historian of sorts on the subject of pagan holidays and rituals, has wonderful, interesting writings on spring related celebrations here.
And, because spring is really about renewed energy as heard by the increase in bird song, I feel compelled to leave you with some links to great sites on birds, birds and more birds!
Thanks for visiting!
